Oxidative cleavage of lipids with sodium metaperiodate in pyridine.
The cleavage of alpha-diols and alpha-amino alcohols with sodium metaperiodate proceeds under mild conditions and in high yields when pyridine is used as reaction medium. The method is suitable for preparative as well as analytical applications.

Oxidation of urinary pregnane-17,20-diols (17.oxogenic steroids) by sodium metaperiodate is complete within 10 mm at 55#{176}C if the concentration of sodium metaperiodate at the end of the reaction exceeds 1.5 X 10-SM. A safe excess of sodium metaperiodate is present if assay samples, after incubation for 10 mm at 55#{176}C in 3 X 10-EM ethylene glycol, give a positive test with starch-iodide ...
متن کاملOxidative C-C bond cleavage of N-alkoxycarbonylated cyclic amines by sodium nitrite in trifluoroacetic acid
Oxidative carbon-carbon bond cleavage of N-alkoxycarbonylated cyclic amines was accomplished by NaNO2 in TFA to afford ω-amino carboxylic acid in high yield. Optically active 3-hydroxypiperidine derivatives and 3-pipecolinate, were converted to enantiomerically pure (R)-4-amino-3-hydroxybutanoic acid (GABOB) and (S)-2-pyrrolidone-4-carboxylate, respectively. It is well known that trifluoroaceti...
متن کاملInvestigations into the mechanisms of pyridine ring cleavage in vismodegib.
Vismodegib (Erivedge, GDC-0449) is a first-in-class, orally administered small-molecule Hedgehog pathway inhibitor that is approved for the treatment of advanced basal cell carcinoma. Previously, we reported results from preclinical and clinical radiolabeled mass balance studies in which we determined that metabolism is the main route of vismodegib elimination. The metabolites of vismodegib are...
